A personal animation exploring grief and healing.
This emotionally charged short film was created as a personal tribute, blending storytelling and stylized animation. Mory follows a character inspired by real life experiences, exploring grief, resilience, and transformation through a surreal, cinematic world. Every frame reflects deep emotional weight, supported by custom character design, detailed environments, and expressive animation that capture the complexity of loss and healing.
The main character is a deeply personal digital self portrait, crafted with high attention to detail to mirror the creator’s real-life appearance. Every feature from facial structure and hairstyle to tattoos and piercings was intentionally replicated to reflect identity and vulnerability. This commitment to realism brings emotional authenticity to the film, allowing the audience to connect with the character’s grief and transformation on a human level. The character doesn’t just tell a story it is the story, embodying the creator’s lived experience and internal world.
The setting visualizes the chaos of my inner mind a space filled with emotional clutter, reflection, and unresolved memories. It’s deliberately messy and surreal, echoing the confusion I felt while processing loss and identity. Every object and detail serves as a metaphor, making the environment a tangible expression of my internal struggles. This space isn’t just a backdrop it’s a character in itself, amplifying the emotional depth of the story through mood, lighting, and symbolism.
The project was developed over a month using Maya for modeling and animation, Cinema 4D for additional animation, Redshift for rendering, and XGen for hair simulation. Cloth simulations and texture work were handled in Substance Painter and integrated with Bridge 3D models, showcasing a technically ambitious production under tight deadlines.
